How to care for your lashes when you of on a trip

Sandey's tips will help you get the most out of your lashes!

Swimming with Lashes

One of our favorite ways to cool off from the summer heat is to head to the pool for a refreshing swim! You may be wondering, “Can you swim with lash extensions?” The simple answer is yes — you can enjoy the water with extensions in. However, both chlorine and saltwater can shorten lash retention time if not cared for properly. So whether you’re swimming in a pool, lake, or the ocean, we recommend rinsing with fresh water after your swim and then gently combing through your lashes with a reusable lash wand or patting them dry (never rubbing!) to remove excess water. Keeping them clean and dry will help preserve and extend the life of your luxurious lashes.

Avoid Direct Heat

While we love to bask in the summer sun, the extreme heat it brings can be damaging to your lash extensions. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures may “relax” the curl, or even worse, singe the lashes. When grilling or snuggling up next to a toasty campfire, take care not to stand too close or directly over the heat so your lashes remain intact and continue to look beautifully curled and healthy. Summer heat can damage lash extensions—it may relax the curl or even singe them. Avoid standing too close to grills or campfires to keep lashes curled and healthy.

Summer = More Sweat

It’s pretty impossible to run around in the sun and not sweat, and that perspiration can carry natural oils from your skin that may migrate into your eye area and compromise lash retention. Here at The Lash Professional, we strongly believe in the benefits of exercise and “sweating it out,” but to protect your extensions while you work out we recommend keeping a small towel or sweatband handy when hitting the gym. In cases of extreme sweating—think hot yoga or very intense cardio—follow up your session by rinsing your lashes with fresh water to remove residue and help preserve retention.

Keep Your Lashes Clean

Being outside more — camping, hiking, swimming, and similar activities — can cause extra dirt, sweat, and debris to collect in your lashes. We recommend keeping your extensions clean by rinsing them gently in the shower and allowing the water to pass through the lashes. For a deeper, more thorough clean, consider using our foaming lash cleanser together with a super-gentle eyelash extension brush on a regular basis. Following this extension care tip will help keep your lashes looking fresh, pristine, and new for a longer time.

Applying Sunscreen

Our last, but certainly not least, extension tip focuses on protecting your skin while preserving your lashes. We firmly believe in the daily use of sunscreen—it’s essential for all your favorite summer activities. Keep in mind, though, that many sunscreen formulas contain oils and heavier ingredients that can cause premature lash shedding. To protect both your skin and extensions, take extra care when applying SPF: avoid the immediate eye area, choose lightweight, non-oily formulations when possible, and allow the product to fully absorb before swimming, exercising, or sweating.
